i havent found it to be very useful mostly because its hard to spam it with 2 second casting time especially when there are other mesmer skills out there that do more dmg for quicker times and are easier to spam. this skill has prob the worst elite companion in the "energy surge" skill which is only different in any of its stats in that the dmg is spread to adjacent enemies which sucks in pvp, and where energy depletion isnt very good in pve in the first place. i say spend your skill slot on something else.

its good if you want to hurt then and make them lose energy. i have found it very effective against any caster/warrior in PvP. this takes away precious energy they need to curse you/heal allies with. i find it good in PvE too because if you want to end those annyoing enemy casters life, you use this too hurt them and drain their energy. it is like energy surge. the best thing to do is get this and energy surge and you've got one upset caster!

Actually since all 3 are Dom Magic combine Energy Burn, Energy Surge and Signet of Weakness. Each take the same ammount of energy from someone.
Talk about shutting down a monk.

Hardly. That's 25 energy. You can easily shut down a monk with a migraine build, while these skills are counterable with things like BiP and Blood Ritual. Oh, and, it's Signet of *Weariness*.

I use it added to Energy Surge, and Signet of Weariness together with Mind Wrack.
The idea of the build is to use domination skills to deal with any profession. I use this build with these also: Cry of Frustration and Wastrel's Worry.
A drawback problem might be that unless the foe has energy, you may waist energy. But, for fighting a warrior or a ranger, casting those 3 energy burning spells may be enough to trigger Mind Wrack. Against a caster may not be enough, but burning most of the energy, then having Mind Wrack on them may put a condition on their actions.
A problem with most mesmer's hexes seems to be to be aware of whether they are active or still active or are about to end being active on a foe... ^_^ we need to be aware of this either to recast them or to shatter them, but, also it is a problem to know how much energy a foe has.
^_^

actually the signet of weariness/eburn/esurge/mind wrack build is pretty nice.
if you got someone to 0 energy you need to pace yourself so you either hit them when they reach 4 energy or 9 energy, depending on who you target. the little purple numbers are key here
